Travelling from George or the Garden Route?

With Meiringspoort currently closed and access over the Swartberg Pass limited, we recommend following the N12 via Oudtshoorn, then the N1 through Beaufort West to Prince Albert. While the journey is longer, but it is the safest and most reliable route for standard vehicles. Please allow an additional 2–2½ hours travel time and check the latest Western Cape road updates before departing. Fully tarred and suitable for all vehicles.

The R407 from Willomore to Klaarstroom is shorter, but it is a gravel road.

How it works

    decide to venture out for a weekend of wine tasting in the Karoo.

  1. Second

    book your accommodation and come buy your ticket at registration. Ticket sales are open on Quicket.

  1. Lastly

    arrive in Prince Albert and report to the registration and information desk at 57 Church Street, pick up your tasting passport and goodie bag (bag, map, glass and bottle of water).

    Venture off to check in at your accommodation, settle in and then start your Prince Albert wine tasting experience.

Your passport gives you access to all tasting stations where you will meet the producers and sample all the wine you want.

Don’t drink wine? No problem! You may still enjoy our town and the vino-vibe by accompanying your friends and partners.

Walk from one end of town to the other end. Venues are spread over 4km.

Most venues will offer food which you can buy from them. During the day you can sit down and catch your breath or eat on the run, but we do encourage you to book for dinners. No space left to book? Food Stalls, wine and beer will be available at the night market on Friday and Saturday evenings (no own-food will be allowed – it’s not a picnic), and 2 more restaurants will be open for walk-ins.

Check with the venues for any special pairings they might have on the menu.

Tasting times: Friday from 12:00 to 18:00, and Saturday from 11:00 to 17:00.

Any other beverages are for your account and can be ordered off the menus from the venues.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must finish your tasting wine at the venue before leaving the venue. You may not walk and drink – there will be a police presence and you will be wine-fined if you do. It is against the law to consume any alcohol in public. Please adhere to this rule in order for the Vino Camino to retain the necessary liquor and event licences for future wine tasting walking adventures.
